Chiropractic for Poor Posture
Poor posture isn’t a willpower problem, and telling yourself to sit up up straight rarely sticks. The way we hold ourselves is shaped by how the joints in our spine are moving, the balance of the muscles around them, and the positions we’ve defaulted to over thousands of hours if sitting, working and moving. At Langwarrin Family Chiropractic, we look at why your posture has developed the way it has. That’s what leads to something actually changing.
The most common patterns we see are a head that sits too far forward, rounded shoulders and a hump through the upper back. These happen because the spine becomes stiff in certain areas, and the body compensates. Screens, desk work, driving, heavy school bags and the physical demands of some jobs make these patterns worse over time. The good news is that once we understand what’s driving the pattern, there’s usually a lot that can be done.
What we commonly see:
Head noticeably sits forward of your shoulders
Shoulders rounding forward, especially by the end of the day
Aching or fatigue from sitting or standing for long periods
Children or teenagers with poor posture
Scoliosis
-
Yes. Stiff spinal joints can be worked on at any age, and habits do change with the right guidance. How much changes and how quickly depends on how long the pattern has been there. We’ll give you an honest picture at your assessment.
-
Earlier is better. Teenagers spines are still growing, and patterns caught during development are much easier to work with than ones that have been there for decades.
-
Yes. We assess and monitor scoliosis and provide appropriate care where it’s helpful. We work alongside your GP or specialist to make sure the curve is being tracked properly over time.
