Parenting is one of the most physically demanding things a body can do and it’s also one of those things where your own health tends to slop down the list. Picking up babies and toddlers, feeding in the middle of the night, loading kids in and out of car seats, carrying heavy bags and sitting on tiny chairs all add up! We see a lot of parents at Langwarrin Family Chiropractic, and we understand that appointments need to be practical and quick, and that results need to hold up in a busy household.

The early years of parenting in particular are surprisingly tough on the body. Feeding posture alone including breastfeeding, bottle feeding or hunching over a pram, puts the neck and upper back under sustained load for hours everyday. Add in the lifting, the broken sleep and the way stress settles in the should and jaw, and its no surprise that so many parents walk around carrying the pain they’ve just normalised. You don’t have to.

What we commonly see:

  • Neck and upper back aches from feeding, looking down or carrying

  • Lower back flare ups from lifting, out of cots, into car seats or off the floor

  • Carrying your child on one hip making body tense

  • Wrists and arms aching from carrying and holding kids

  • Back and pelvic pain during pregnancy that hasn’t fully settled

Chiropractic for Parents

  • Of course! We’re a family practice and kids are always welcome. We have a play area to keep them busy and are always happy to help out with little ones.

  • It’s never too soon. The postnatal period is one of the most physically demanding for the body. we adapt our care for where you are, whether that’s a few weeks or a few months after birth.

  • Yes. Pain that gets normalised rarely improves on its own. A proper look at what’s going on is always worthwhile.
