Chiropractic for Headaches

Headaches are among the most common health complaint in Australia and among the most frequently tolerated rather than properly investigated. Many people manage their headaches with an over-the-counter medication for years without ever understanding what’s actually causing the headaches. At Langwarrin Family Chiropractic, we assess whether the neck, upper back and or posture are contributing to your headache pattern, because for many people they are.

  • Tension headaches driven by muscle tightness and stress

  • Cervicogenic headaches that originate from the neck and upper spine,

  • Headaches associated with poor posture and prolonged screen time.

Understanding which type of headache you're dealing with is an important first step in addressing them effectively.

What we commonly see:

  • Tension headaches, pressure, tightness or band-like pain around the head

  • Cervicogenic headaches starting at the base of the skull and spreading forward

  • Headaches that coincide with neck stiffness or reduced movement

  • Headaches linked to prolonged screen use, desk work or driving

  • Frequent or recurring headaches that disrupt daily life

  • Headaches associated with jaw clenching or facial tension

  • Headaches in children and teenagers

  • Cervicogenic headaches often start at the base of the skull and spread forward, are typically one sided, and are associated with neck stiffness and tenderness. They may be provoked by certain neck positions or movements. Assessment is the best way to determine whether your neck is a contributing factor.

  • Yes. Headaches in children and teenagers are not normal, but it is something we see regularly, particularly in those spending a significant amount of time on screens or carrying heavy school bags. We adapt our assessment and approach to suit each individual child.

  • Chiropractors commonly assess and manage certain types of headaches including tension type and cervicogenic headaches. If you experience migraines we will conduct a thorough assessment and discuss whether chiropractic care is appropriate for your specific presentation.
